Week six: Wednesday July 29th

July 29th, 2009

Today, Dan and I spent the morning completing our NISE posters…what a nightmare that was! Anyways, it’s done and over. In the afternoon we spent time working on our power point presentation and making more micro channels. Dan has really seemed to perfect the art of PDMS micro channels.

Week five: Wednesday July 22nd

July 22nd, 2009

Its’ been a while since I Iast blogged, but Caitlin and I have made some great strides with our prototype. We have spent the majority of our time this week in the lab where we have the skeleton of our prototype completed. We still need to make a vase for the webcam and fine tune the lenses. We also haveĀ  been working on the PDMS channels. Actually Dan has spent a great deal perfecting it. He has done a great job with it and come up with some really good ideas.

The past five weeks have gone by very fast. Next week is our last week here at Delaware and I feel that we have so much to accomplish between now and then and I’m sure if we will get it all done!!!!!!!

So much to do and so little time to do it in!

Week four: Thursday July 16th

July 15th, 2009

We spent most of the morning working on our wiki pages. We deciede to re-do most of the pages to male them more user friendly for the students.

In the afternoon, we took a look at the PDMS molds that Dan, Caitlin and Allan did on wed. Most of the gels were still curing and sticky. We also noticed that they were not curing evenly. Tomorrow, Dan and I are going to try some different set ups that we feel will work better. We’ll shall see…

Week four: Wednesday July 15th

July 15th, 2009

Today I was out for family reasons. Toorrow I hope to work in the lab and perfect our channel making!

Week four: Tuesday July 14th

July 15th, 2009

Today we decided to make our optofluidic channels differently. We found that making them with the etching was not ideal. We would have to polish the copper etching and make sure the PDMS dried evenly (which it didn’t). So Dan came up with a couple of different ideas that I think will work better with less work. We’ll see…

Week four: Monday July 13th

July 12th, 2009

Today we continued to worked on our wiki pages. We ordered or lasers and webcam for our prototypes. Unfortunately the laser was not the one we ordered, so we have to wait for the correct on to come in. On wed. there is a trip to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I’m actually looking forward to it. I heard it is a cool trip.

Week three: Friday July 10th

July 12th, 2009

Thank God its’ Friday! Today I spent the morning continuing to work on my wiki page. So much work! I really hope it works out next semester. In the afternoon we had a tech-tool seminar that was pretty cool. They showed us some really cool web sites but my biggest concern is when do teachers have the time to do all these websites and keep them updated? Teachers just NEVER have the time to do everything we want to do in school!!!!

Week three: Thursday July 9th

July 9th, 2009

Today Dan and I continued to work on ourĀ  wiki pages kmadscience.wikispaces.com. The wiki pages are really starting to come along but they still are a work in progress. Caitlin and myself also decided on a laser and webcam today for our prototype. Nothing too exciting.

Yesterday afternoon, Tak took us down to the lab to make our micro optofluidic channels. They were pretty cool but we need to perfect our methods because the channels are very difficult to take off the slide.

Week three: Wednesday July 8th

July 8th, 2009

Today Dan and I spent most of the morning and afternoon working on our
Wiki pages for our NISE projects. We are setting up wiki’s for an Earth Science Unit that the students will do mostly on their own. In theory it seems like a good idea and a bit challenging, but we’ll see how it works in the classroom. It maybe a comoplete failure, but It might not be. We’ll see! Tak showed us the lab the other day but we haven’t had a whole lot of time to get in there so hopefully that changes soon!!! To be continued…

Week three: Tuesday July 7th

July 7th, 2009

Today we spent the morning in meetings. We started with the “Tech Tools” which was introducing us to more of the features that Google has that we may use in our classrooms. Later in the week, our tech guy will teach us how download videos at home to use in our classrooms. That is something I am looking forward to because I use small video clips in my class often.
Currently I am in our curriculm meeting reviewing what we are going to do in our classes with Dan.
